Graduation at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) always hits different—legacy, pride, and the kind of joy you can’t fake. Donovan “Donny” Myles Finney’s graduation session was a perfect example of that: a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Criminalistics, deep faith, the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha, and a personal touch that made the gallery unmistakably his—Spider-Man.
This is what I want PVAMU graduation portraits to be: classic enough to last, personal enough to matter.
A degree with direction: Criminal Justice + Criminalistics
Donny earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Criminalistics concentration—work rooted in evidence, analysis, and precision. That same energy carried into his photos: sharp styling, confident posture, and a clean, professional presence that matches where he’s headed next.
His graduation stole also tells a story worth documenting: achievements, service, and identity—including visible references to Alpha Phi Alpha and his faith (including Psalm 121:1). Details like that are what separate meaningful portraits from generic cap-and-gown photos.
The timeless look (because trends don’t age well)

I’ll say it plainly: a well-shot suit portrait will outlive every trend on social media. So we built the session around a classic foundation—Donny in a blue suit with a bold red tie, photographed with clean backgrounds and controlled depth of field.
Then we layered in the graduation elements (cap, stole, cords) so the final set feels complete: professional, academic, and personal.
PVAMU landmarks that belong in the gallery

A PVAMU graduation session should look like PVAMU. We used recognizable campus backdrops that immediately place the story in Prairie View:
- Exterior steps and glass-front buildings for high-energy celebration images
- Indoor stairwell locations for strong leading lines and polished, editorial frames
- The PVAMU Panther statue for an iconic “this is my campus” portrait
- An auditorium setting to create a “student-to-professional” visual transition
That mix gives you variety without turning the session into a scavenger hunt.
The Spider-Man detail (done right)

One of my favorite parts of Donny’s session was how he brought in Spider-Man elements—mask, stickered laptop—without turning the whole shoot into a costume party. That’s the key: props only work when they’re authentic and controlled.
We treated it like a story scene: Donny as the graduate and future professional, with Spider-Man as the signature detail that says, “I’m accomplished—and I’m still me.”
The people behind the win

Graduation is rarely a solo accomplishment. We made room for group images that feel like real celebration—laughter, motion, and pride. The jump shot on the steps is pure joy, and the mirror-reflection concept was a creative way to include everyone while keeping Donny as the main subject.

Those are the images families print and friends share.
Planning your PVAMU graduation session
If you want PVAMU graduation portraits done right, here’s the formula that consistently works:
- Start with a classic outfit (suit/dress) for timeless portraits.
- Bring the details: stoles, cords, meaningful accessories—they tell your story.
- Use 2–3 campus locations max to keep the session efficient.
- Add one “personal signature” setup (props/theme) that actually fits you.
- Include a quick group segment for family/friends—it’s always worth it.
